We have our Caesarstone bench top

01/12/09: Our house has had its second coat of paint, now all that is left are the skirting boards, architraves, doors and finishing off around the cornices. He has told us that he should be finished by Friday, I'm not sure when he plans to do the rest of the outside paint, we're not too worried as it's not holding anything else up.

Something else that happened today; we got our kitchen bench put in. I didn't expect that we would have it just yet, so it was a good surprise. One bad thing though is that the site was cleaned up today and the off cuts from the Caesarstone were taken away along with the left over roof tiles. We were going to keep the tiles so I'm a little upset that they were taken away, we didn't move them around the back because it still looks like they need to finish off around the feature gable and we weren’t sure if they were still needed. I'll have to talk to the site supervisor about this on Thursday.

First coat of paint

29/11/09: Well today was a bit of a surprise, the whole house has had its first coat of paint. When I spoke to the painter on Friday morning he suggested we paint the house with half strength whitebox quarter. He then told us to go up and have a look on at the house on Sunday as he should have some of the colour completed. He told us that if we weren’t happy with the half strength whitebox quarter he would get it retinted on Monday for the second coat.

The first time we walked into the house the paint fumes were so strong that our eyes were watering and it was hard to breathe. We did a quick dash around the house then got out quickly so we could breathe some fresh air. We weren’t 100% sure with the colour at first, we though it might need to be darker. I called my mum to get her to come up for her opinion, since she was an hour away we went for a shop and had a discussion about the paint.

Once we returned to the house for our second look the paint fumes didn't seem to be as strong. We both had warmed to the colour, thinking that it would be dark enough. This is because we want the paint to be a small feature of the house, not to over power everything else. We asked what my mother had to say about the paint, she said it was exactly what she expected it to look like. As we had taken her to the display house we borrowed the colours from and she hadn’t been involved with all the trouble and dramas to get the paint on the wall this was a bit of a relief.

I hope you all enjoy the mega pic fest I have included below, let me know what you all think.

Paint prep started, portico feature and more

26/11/09: It was finally great to see something happen at the house today, I was beginning to think nothing more was ever going to get done. When my fiancé arrived this afternoon the painter was there prepping the house to start the painting on Saturday. He is very concerned that our internal paint colour "whitebox quater" will be darker than what we want inside and has suggested that we halve the "whitebox quater." This is something we need to discuss tonight as he will be ordering the paint tomorrow.

There were a few other things done today on the house as well. The wood feature on the portico was done today, we are getting that wood stained along with the wood in the feature gable to match the garage door. When my fiancé was talking to him about this he said that because the front door is lighter that the other wood he will do something to make it match best as possible to the feature wood. I've only met the painter once and spoken to him on the phone once, but he seems like a great guy, one that likes what he does. He is willing try his best to help you out with your paint choices and is willing to make any changes you may want before he starts painting.

One other thing to get done today were the pillars in the main ensuite, this is one thing we were hanging out to see what they would look like. Now that we have seen them in real life we love them, we can't wait to see it all painted.

Our garage door is now closed

24/11/09: After last week's monster week, its been a bit disappointing that nothing at all has been done so far this week, I hope it's going to change. I spoke to the site supervisor on Monday just to check up on a letter we received about the gas connection, it turns out it was already sorted out about 3 weeks ago.

Whilst talking to him, I asked what was getting done early this week. Because he wasn't sure if the tiler would finish the job last week he allowed until Wednesday before anything else would happen. He still seemed to be pretty positive about getting the house finished before Christmas, I just can't see it happening, especially after talking to the bank about getting our last payment. The bank has told me that they will need 4-5 days notice before they can start the payment transfer as they will need to organise a inspection before the payment can be made.

I can just see it now, the house will be finished but the bank won’t have enough time to get the payment made before Coral closes down for Christmas.

One thing that has happened this week is that the garage door has been closed, so I now have the pictures of our new garage door.

Wet area tiles finished

20/11/09: Our wet area tiles were finished today. We were a bit unsure of our frieze tile at first, now that it has been grouted it looks much better. I think it will look great once we have the walls painted 'white box,' as it's more a bluey green colour, it should work in well with the frieze.

Not much else to say today other than bring on next week. Enjoy the pics.

Garage door fitted, more wet area tiles done

19/11/09: Our garage door was delivered and installed today, unfortunately it is in the open position with no power connected so we can't see what it looks like.

Our wet area tiles also continued today, with work on the main ensuite. I don't have any photos as the tiler was still there working this afternoon when my fiancé was there. I have included a photo of the tiles from ensuite 3 that were finished yesterday afternoon. He told her that he will have finished the job tomorrow and that we need to pay him for the installation of the frieze tile. He told us that he would charge us $180 cash, so that's what we did.

On another note we received our finishes bill today, it's one of those bittersweet bills, you don't really want it but you know it means that you're one step closer to getting into your house.

Wet area wall tiles started today

18/11/09: Our wet area wall tiles and frieze were done today in ensuite 1 and 2. The portico ceiling was also started today, it looks so different now with the ceiling. They also cut a hole in the floor for our laundry chute.

I've also included a photo of the feature gable over the garage that was done yesterday and more photos of the laundry now that there is better light on it.

More tiling and shelves have been done

17/11/09: I rang Amber Tiles in Tweed Heads this morning before I left for work so I could arrange for the frieze tiles to be delivered. Yet again they have given me another thing to add to my list of why I will never shop at Amber Tiles Tweed Heads again. When I rang I spoke to a guy there he told me they won't deliver the tiles until they have been paid for, he said "we don't deliver things when people don't pay for them". Well buddy maybe you should check your paperwork before you accuse us of not paying for things as we had paid for the tiles on Friday afternoon, as soon as we found out they wouldn't be shipped until they had been paid for in full.

Once we have received our main floor tiles the Manager at Amber Tiles Tweed Heads will be receiving a letter letting them know all of the issues we have had just to get our tiles, we will also be giving a copy to our site supervisor and sending a copy to Coral head office.

When my fiancé arrived at the house this afternoon around 4:30pm, once again there were still tradies there working hard. The plasterers were finishing off the plaster in the garage, she didn't want to interrupt them so no photos until tomorrow. She also noticed that the woodwork had been done in the feature gable on the garage roof, as it was raining there are no photos of the outside today, hopefully tomorrow.

As for the inside, the laundry shelves have been finished. The floor tiling in the main ensuite and laundry have also been finished. The vanities have also gone into ensuite 1 and ensuite 2 as the floor tiling was completed yesterday.

Roof tiles done, garage plaster done, shelves started and more

16/11/09: What a hive of activity today, when my fiancé arrived around 4:30pm this afternoon there were heaps of tradies working on site. The first thing she noticed was that the garage roof tiling had been completely finished, the tradies had also started plastering the garage.

The chippies were there and were finishing the architraves. Almost all of the shelves are done, they have finished the linen press and walk in pantry shelves, the tradies were still doing the laundry shelves while my fiancé was there.

When my fiancé went upstairs to see what had been done she got a bit of a surprise. After seeing what had been done downstairs she didn't think anything else would have been done upstairs. When she walked into the bathrooms she saw that the floors had been tiled, she then went to the ensuite to see what had been done there and found that it had been half tiled.

The tiler was still there and came to talk to my fiancé, he told her that he needed the frieze tile. She couldn't believe that it hadn't been delivered as she went and paid for them on Friday afternoon so it wouldn't hold anything up. This is just one more reason to add to yesterdays blog list as why we will never shop at Amber Tiles Tweed Heads ever again. If you missed the post check it out below, it may save you having the same troubles as us.

We also received a letter from Coral today saying that they can't guarantee that we will be in before Christmas. Hopefully if they work as quickly as thay did today we might just make it, we can only hope.

I had the on site meeting with the tiler today

13/11/09: This morning about 15 mins before I was about to leave for work I heard a message come through on my mobile. I went to check it, it was from the tiler. He said that he was on his way to the house and he wanted to do the onsite meeting... today.

Luckily for me the site supervisor had told me earlier this week that I should receive a call from the tiler sometime this week to request an on site meeting, so I had already given my manager some notice that it could be happening this week, but to ring up the morning he wants to meet is just a joke. I have a great manager and boss at work who let me go up there this morning, but what do they expect most people to do?

When I finally arrived at the house, the tiler asked if I had a key. Since my fiancé is the one that goes to the house everyday, she is the one with the key, plus yesterday there wasn't a lock on the door. Great, how am I going to get a key from my fiancé when I can't get hold of her? Luckily someone had left a window slightly ajar so the tiler climbed in and opened the door so that I could get inside.

We started the run through of the tiles, he did apologise for the late notice, and said that he only received the paperwork via fax the previous night at about 8:30pm, and thought that it would be too late to ring at that time. The run through went pretty well, there were a few things that I needed to check with my fiancé before he could start the tiling, other than that it was fine.

The tiler also noticed that our frieze tiles weren’t there, he told me that he would call the site supervisor to check what was going on with them. When I rang the tiler back at lunchtime, after confirming a few things with my fiancé, the tiler told me that Amber Tiles at Tweed Heads wouldn't send the tiles out until we paid for them. When doing the tile selection the guy at Amber Tiles Tweed Heads told us that the frieze we had selected wouldn't cost any more than what Coral had allowed.

I rang my fiancé to tell her to pop around to the Amber Tiles Tweed Heads to find one what was going on, she isn't good at things like this so she just paid for the tiles. I'm going to ring them on Monday to find out what's going on.

Amber Tiles Tweed Heads have been so bad to deal with, when we arrived the guy wouldn't leave us to look at the range in the store, he just hung around like a bad smell. He then had the hide to tell us that we should change our main paint colour because it would be easier to match tiles up with a different colour. You know what would of been easier? If Amber Tiles Tweed Heads had a better selection of tiles to choose from, they were mostly the same colour just in different shades. If we had more of a choice of shops to choose from, we would have gone somewhere else.

When Coral rang Amber Tiles Tweed Heads a few weeks ago, they couldn't even find our order, the site supervisor had to ring me to confirm that we had in fact gone to Amber Tiles Tweed Heads to do our selection. They did finally find our selection, but now want to charge us for something that told us would not cost us any extra. One thing I can tell you about this experience is that we'll never shop at Amber Tiles Tweed Heads again.

When my fiancé arrived at the house this afternoon to see what had been done our key wouldn't work, luckily someone had forgotten to lock one of the doors so she could get in. This is something I'll have to check with the site supervisor on Monday. The only thing the tiler had done was some preparation work for the tiling next week, he couldn't do anymore work as the chippies came back and needed to gain access to the laundry where we was going to work.

I hope we see a lot more action on the house next week, even though we got our kitchen on Monday, the rest of the week was the chippies doing the architraves, doors and skirting boards, which still haven't been finished. We are still waiting for our bathroom and ensuite cupboards to be installed too. I hope this is all finished next week along with the wet area tiling, fingers crossed.

Wardrobe shelves and tiles delivered

12/11/09: Our tiles were delivered today, I'm still waiting on a call from the guy that will be laying the tiles as I have to meet him on site. I was told last week that I be meeting him on site late this week, it's now Thursday and I haven’t heard from him. I rang the site supervisor today to find out when I should be receiving that call. He told me he would ring the tiler to check he had my details, I haven’t heard anything back yet.

I received a phone call today from one of the chippies asking where we will be getting carpet and tiles so he could do the skirting board, which it looks like was started today.
